Los Angeles event calendar and guide to what's hip, happening and affordable
Curated by Lauren Cilch. Last updated on May 3, 2012
When I first started this blog, I had a lot of time on my hands and limited resources. My greatest joy was finding culturally stimulating things to do in the free to $25 range and share them with likeminded Angelenos. Since then, my life has totally changed and now I have precious little time to devote to LAintheKnow. Until further notice, LAintheKnow will be on hiatus for an indefinite period of time. Thank you for your understanding.

You're not an Angeleno "in the know" unless
...you've attended a Cinespia outdoor screening at Hollywood Forever Cemetery; are a KCRW devotee; spot a celebrity at least once every two weeks (if not, consider getting out more often); stood in line 45 minutes for a Pink's hotdog; parked illegally on Mulholland to eye the view; been hungover from one too many El Coyote margaritas; attended a Charles Phoenix retro slideshow; had a martini at Musso & Franks; know that a yellow light is equivalent to a green left arrow; experienced sunset from the Getty Center; agree that valet or any paid parking is always the last resort; visited Marilyn at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial; woken up still tasting your Versailles half roast chicken dinner; vow to go to the Hollywood Bowl at least once each summer; went through a Marty and Elaine phase; are a master of surface street shortcuts; consider yourself a Farmer's Market aficionado
I love Los Angeles and all the city has to offer. I bristle when people say LA has no culture. There is a plethora of art, music and theater available 24/7 all over this town. However I do admit that it takes some effort to find and keep track of what’s going on – especially the kind of activities that won’t render you penniless.
LAintheKnow launched in August 2009 with the mission to provide a simple, one-stop, arts-centric, curated, monthly events calendar for budget-minded Angelenos that like to go out a lot. I don’t list everything happening in town only what I deem notable and affordable - free to $25. That being the case you might wonder if we share the same interests, tastes or idiosyncrasies to make this blog a must-read. Check-out the “You’re not an Angeleno in the Know unless” section. If my call-outs don’t resonate with you, best to look elsewhere for ideas on what to do in LA. If you’re always on the lookout for the latest freebie or cost savings – and who isn’t? - check-out “The Find” section for everyday or ongoing happening deals.
LAintheKnow posts last minute updates and late breaking tips on Twitter and event commentary and photos on Facebook.
